The figurative series 1995-96 captures watching the early years development and learning of her son. The work strives to summarise a child listening to and mimicking sounds, touching finger to thumb and learning to walk. Spine refers to development and growing of the childs body and mind and recalls games of round the garden.

The work is hollow and is made from sheets of rolled clay, painted and drawn with engobes and ceramic crayon.It is treated with a black was at the biscuit fired stage.
